Standard Clearance Procedures

Understand the necessary steps required for importing goods into Grenada to ensure a smooth and compliant process.

1. Document Preparation

Before goods arrive, ensure you have all original commercial documents. The required documents typically include:

  • Commercial Invoice (detailing cost, insurance, and freight - CIF).

  • Bill of Lading or Airway Bill.

  • Certificate of Origin (if claiming preferential tariff treatment under CARICOM or EPA).

  • Import Licenses or Permits (for restricted goods like agricultural products or firearms).

2. Declaration Submission (ASYCUDA)

A Customs Declaration must be prepared and submitted electronically using the ASYCUDA World system.

This can be done by the importer (if registered as a declarant) or by engaging the services of a licensed Customs Broker. The system will automatically assess the duties and taxes based on the entered tariff codes and values.

3. Payment of Duties and Taxes

Once the declaration is assessed, payment must be made. Payments can be processed via:

  • Online payment portal (via participating banks).

  • At the Customs Cashier desk (Cash, Manager's Cheque, or Point of Sale debit/credit card).

Note: Personal cheques are not accepted without prior authorization from the Comptroller of Customs.

4. Examination and Release

After payment, proceed to the transit shed or port facility where the goods are held. Based on risk management criteria, your declaration will be routed to one of the following lanes:

  • Green Lane: Immediate release without physical examination.

  • Yellow Lane: Documentary check required before release.

  • Red Lane: Physical examination of goods required.

Once cleared by Customs, port charges must be settled with the respective Port Authority before final delivery of goods.
